Light plane crashed in Kenya

An Australian pilot in Kenya has escaped death after crashing his light plane only metres away from Wilson Airport in Nairobi.

Nairobi County Commander Japheth Koome said Captain Simon Herd and his wife and two daughters all escaped unhurt.

“The aircraft did not catch fire after the crash and none of the passengers sustained injuries,” Commander Koome said.

The plane, a Cessna 182 with the registration 5Y-BME, was travelling to Nairobi from Kallif County.

Investigators from the Ministry of Transport’s Air Accident Investigation Department attended the scene. Preliminary results are yet to be released.
